Avenwood has been offering wooden phone cases for various smartphone models since 2014 and is one of the leading brands for sustainable products.

The style and, of course, the exact fit of the smartphone cases have evolved over the years, but one thing has remained the same since our founding: wood and bamboo as the ideal raw materials for sustainable phone cases.

The Evolution of Our Phone Cases

At the beginning of our journey, the Avenwood range consisted of cases completely free of plastic. The products were made entirely from bamboo.

The result was a truly eco-friendly phone case, as only a thin layer of felt was glued inside to protect the back of the smartphone. Otherwise, the protective case was made solely of wood. Your custom design was engraved on the back of the case right back then.

Since bamboo offers no flexibility, this case was produced in two parts, which were then slid over the smartphone from the top and bottom.

Disadvantages of a Solid Wood Case

Unfortunately, cases made entirely of bamboo also had a major disadvantage. If the phone fell, the case could break. Although we always communicated this openly and transparently, it repeatedly led to disappointed customers when the case broke after only a short time. At least the smartphone remained undamaged.

For this reason, after some time, we decided that we needed to find a compromise between the environmental friendliness and the durability of the cases. After all, it was not a sustainable idea if phone cases had to be disposed of after a short time, even if they were made of wood.

The result for our sustainable phone cases is a combination of plastic and wood. We chose TPU as the plastic because it is soft and therefore does not break even after several falls; instead, it absorbs the impact and perfectly protects your iPhone, Samsung, or Huawei phone.

Nevertheless, we incorporate a large bamboo element into all our accessories. Before shipping, we engrave your desired design as well as the Avenwood logo.

Why Bamboo?

Bamboo is a true alternative to other woods and other natural materials such as cork. Bamboo is very good for the environment because it is actually a grass and therefore grows very quickly. Bamboo can grow up to 1 meter in a single day. A tree may take 100 years to grow to the same size (e.g., an oak tree). Cork is even rarer, and there is a shortage of cork in many areas.

At the same time, bamboo also has important properties for phone cases: the wood is very light, highly durable, and can also withstand water without any problems. These are all important criteria for a sustainable phone case that is intended to protect your smartphone for a long time.

Sustainable Production

Unlike other woods, bamboo does not need to be replanted. The raw material is harvested and simply grows back on its own.

For this reason, as a provider of sustainable phone cases and other accessories, we use bamboo as often as possible. In rare cases, we supplement our range with other woods to offer more colors to choose from.
